Linda, Registered Nurse and Transformational Coaching Practitioner, spent the majority of 40 + years caring for persons, and their families, with neurological disorders and injuries. Professional development includes academic and practice-oriented credentialing in nursing and coaching.  Entering the coaching profession was a natural evolution for Linda to help individuals adapt to and cope with change.

Working in a variety of nursing roles spanning practice, management, academia and research, she experienced, as well as, witnessed the impact of the inability to give the kind of care one envisions when entering nursing. Unfortunately, the systems where the majority of care delivery takes place often do not offer the type of support needed for nurses to do the work they do every shift, every day. Working in unsupportive work environments leads to increased stress, anxiety, fatigue and eventually burnout, when left unaddressed. While patient and family care are impacted, so is the nurse’s personal health and well-being and relationships with family and friends.

Linda provides one-on-one and small group coaching. Coaching services include education and health coaching related to lifestyle management, stress and anxiety reduction, building resilience and personal empowerment. For those nurses interested in deep healing work, Linda has developed a powerful transformational process to identify what one needs for optimum self-care practices: The Nurse Heroine’s Journey of Transformation.

True Self-Care: The Nurse Heroine’s Journey of Transformation

Nurses, no matter their role, are searching for tools to alleviate their sources of stress, struggle and suffering in their work environments. While research suggests that burnout in nursing is a significant issue and impacts patient and family care, some emerging research is focusing on the basic needs to help mitigate the effects of burnout in nurses.  However, self-care for nurses must include a holistic approach that encompasses mind, body, spirit elements. This approach is not always easy to implement or achieve!

This presentation explores the importance of development of self-compassion and resilience into a self-care practice. These concepts will be highlighted through a presentation of a unique experiential process to identify barriers to self-care and strategies to implement holistic self-care practices.
